PUBLIC LECTURE ON HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AND EMPLOYMENT PROMOTION

The Public lecture on “Human capital development and employment promotion” was organized by the Economic Policy Research Network (EPRN) and attracted more than 200 students and lectures from UNILAK Kigali. This public lecture was held on 11 March, 2020 from 11am-1pm at UNILAK Rwamagana.

The public lecture started by the welcoming remarks of Dr Javan acting coordinator of UNILAK Rwamagana campus. In his speech, he thanked EPRN for organizing this public lecture as it is a good opportunity not only for students but also for everyone who is in the field of economics.

Coordinator of EPRN Rwanda ; Seth KWIZERA presented about Human capital development and employment promotion. In short word he told the students that creation of jobs is crucial to the achievement of economic development and social progress and show them how the government vision is to create more jobs ,inclusive jobs and better jobs(the quantity and quality) and this has to be a joint responsibility (public private). Also he referenced to the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 8.) states that there is a need to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all and the National Strategy for transformation (NST 1) highlights the need to accelerate inclusive economic growth and development founded on the Private Sector, knowledge and Rwanda’s Natural towards the Economic Transformation of the country.

He also stressed the significance of instilling a culture of doing research among Rwanda’s youth and thanked all the participants for their commitment to EPRN Research driven programs and encouraged more students to join EPRN.

The closing remark was Dr Javan reminded the participants that being an EPRN member or researcher is not only for economist students rather all students from whatever options in UNILAK can be an affiliate and conduct a given research as far as he/she is able and capable to do so. He also proclaimed that ‘those who fascinated in becoming future research, EPRN is one of the approach to attain their dreams.”
